Ms. Dominguez walked through the doors of East West in 2000. She had been researching different styles of martial arts, trying to find the right system for her. Although she had just begun studying at another school, she immediately discontinued her training after she took her introductory lessons with Master Buckley at East-West. Knowing she had finally found a martial arts home, Ms. Dominguez began her training in Bok Fu Do at the age of sixteen.

She quickly made an impact, competing in her first international tournament less than a year after starting. Soon after, Ms. Dominguez earned her instructor rank in 2003. She then went on to qualify for the U.S. national Lei Tai team at the 2003 U.S. International Kuo Shu Championships trials in Baltimore, MD. To cap off her impressive rise on the competition scene, Ms. Dominguez won the world championships for the United States later that year at the 1st TWKSF World Kuo Shu Tournament, which was hosted in Brazil. And yet she was still a mere green belt! From there, she only got stronger. Ms. Dominguez continued to compete every year at the U.S. International Kuo Shu Championships and in 2006, she qualified for the United States Lei Tai team again. She went on to win the world championships for a second time at the 2nd TWKSF World Kuo Shu Tournament, which was hosted in Singapore. In 2008, Ms. Dominguez earned her Bok Fu Do black belt and in 2008, she was chosen to be a disciple under Grandmaster Lee. In 2009, she qualified for the U.S. national Lei Tai team for a third time and went on to become a three-time world champion at the 3rd TWKSF World Kuo Shu Tournament, which was hosted in Germany.

Ms. Dominguez has won the United States Kuo Shu Federations Female Lei Tai Competitor of the Year an unprecedented six times (2006-2010 and 2012) for her outstanding fighting performances.

In 2012, Ms. Dominguez qualified for the U.S. national Lei Tai team a record fourth time. From there she went on to represent the United States at the 4th TWKSF World Kuo Shu Tournment in Malaysia. Her phenomenal run was capped off by capturing a record fourth World Championship. Not only that, but she has now won the World Championship in four different weight classes, moving up in weight in consecutive World Tournaments.

Says Master Buckley, “I have to laugh because it’s not (moving up in weight) by design or out of ego – which goes without saying for anyone that knows Dominguez. It’s simply what the team needed her to do so she did it. It’s another great example of Bok Fu Do philosophy at work – the student does what’s best for their school and system and reaps the individual rewards in doing so. The key is trust and there is nobody I’ve worked with that trusts in her teachers and her system more than Ms. Dominguez.”

While Ms. Dominguez’s in-ring abilities have certainly inspired the students of East-West, it is her quiet, respectful and humble nature that impresses the most. For all her accomplishments, she remains first and foremost a caring, dedicated teacher to her students. Her creative and enthusiastic teaching style has made her a favorite among the students of East-West. Master Buckley has often commented that Ms. Dominguez is as genuine and sincere a person you could ever hope to meet. It is for these qualities that Ms. Dominguez has the distinct honor of being in charge of the introductory lessons for prospective students at East-West. Explains Master Buckley, “teaching a new student is a trust that has to be earned because whoever holds this position quite literally holds the future of East-West in their hands. Ms. Dominguez is truly deserving of that trust.”

Says Master Newman, “Of all my personal students, Ms. Dominguez is the one that I have spent the most time with. Between working with her to black belt, training for three world tournaments with her, coaching her at two world championships, and spending time with her on a daily basis training her in the business, there is no one else that has had more of my attention than Ms. Dominguez. I am incredibly proud of the martial artist, teacher and person that she has developed into. She has dedicated her life to Bok Fu Do and her teachers, and she has reaped the benefits of her unparalleled loyalty, determination and kind spirit.”

Ms. Dominguez was a member of the USKSF group that traveled to China in 2002 and 2010. As a personal trainer, Ms. Dominguez has helped to develop several students to instructor level and works with many of the highest ranking youth.

Ms. Dominguez is the Assistant General Manager of East-West Kung Fu Schools.

Some words from Ms. Dominguez:

“I began my Bok Fu Do journey in 2000, and since then what started as an interest in martial arts has developed into a way of life that has enriched and strengthened me on every level. Growing up in the school and training under Grandmaster Lee, Master Buckley, Ms.Newman, and the Black Belts and staff at East West allowed me to have incredible positive role models who helped shape me into who I am today, and continue to help me grow into who I hope to become. The examples that they set has helped me to set my goals high and to aim for dreams and accomplishments that I wouldn’t have thought possible with out their guidance.

The East West Kung Fu schools became like a second home to me early on, and the community of caring, hard working people provided an atmosphere for me that allowed my love of martial arts to thrive into an exciting career full of purpose and promise. Now, I take great honor in having the opportunity to be at the school full time and share with others the things that I have learned through following in my teachers foot steps. I have found great joy and fulfillment in teaching and sharing our great system with the students in our schools, and in doing so, I have developed positive and meaningful relationships not just with the staff and students, but with myself as well.

It has been an incredible journey of self discovery and growth, and the returns I have gained from dedication to Bok Fu Do have been far beyond anything I could have imagined when I first walked through the doors of the school. It is truly a life long journey, and I am looking forward to a lifetime of adventures in Bok Fu Do.”
